Roaring Fork Motor Trail

Hey y'all,

We wanted to go exploring and we wanted to see bears.  We had heard that this motor trail was a good place to see bear.  We got up early and set out to be greeted by thick (and I do mean thick) fog.  It was beautiful in its own way, but not exactly what we were hoping for.  We joked that we probably encountered lots of bears but just didn't see them for the fog. :)  Because of the intense fog, we decided to drive the trail the next day too.  Below you will see pictures from both days.  The second was definitely more fun for the kids because we were able to get out and explore a bit.

Fog.  Kind of pretty though, huh?

I feel like the pictures look mysterious.

I love this one.

My gorgeous family trying to explore a bit through the fog.  This was almost at the end of the trail.  It the first time the fog was light enough to get out of the car.

So handsome!

The next morning, the kids woke up happy, but were honestly not too thrilled with us when they learned we were going to drive some more.  (After driving the trail the day before, we drove up and over the mountains into Cherokee.  [See the next post for those pics.]  I can understand that they were getting bored with driving and looking.)  However, on the way to the trail, we saw two bears!  They were crossing the road and we all got to see them.  Of course, we didn't get a picture.  They move pretty fast!  After seeing the bears, the kids were very eager to get to the motor trail to look for more.

Much better already, don'tcha think?

The kids got out of the car a lot more this day.  We collected pretty leaves to save for our scrapbooks.  We explored around the water and rocks.  It was fun!

One "waterfall" we watched.  We tried throwing leaves into the water to see if they would go down the waterfall, but they all got stuck in the rocks.  It was a fun experiment though!

Molly found a pretty leaf.

Love this face!  I kept telling him how slippery it was and how he needed to be careful.  I guess he needed to learn the hard way!

BIG leaf!

Looking for bear.  We did see one more at the beginning of the trail.  It was sitting in the middle of the road when we came upon it.  It was so cute!  It took off as soon as it saw us, but again, each of us was able to see it.  Awesome!

I wanted to prove that I was on this vacation too.  So, I took a few self-portraits throughout the trip indicating my feelings at the time.  This picture portrays, "This is such an awesome trip so far.  We saw BEARS!!  I am having fun!"

I would highly recommend this motor trail to anyone who is going to be in the Gatlinburg area.  It was beautiful and if you don't have small children, there are many trails that lead to waterfall or other such interesting things, that looked promising.

Until next time...
