Toil in the Soil

Hey y'all,

Saturday was a gorgeous day.  Michael mowed (hopefully for the last time this year) and I worked on planting some bulbs, while the kids played.  Well, that makes it sound nice, pleasant, and easy even.  Not so much!!  The soil here is like concrete!!  I was so sore after doing about half of what I wanted to do.  I couldn't move yesterday!  I still have nearly 100 more bulbs to plant!  Yikes!

Beautiful blue skies invited us outside.  I loved that the moon was still out!

So, I started digging around our Myrtle.  I had to dig a foot down in order to cultivate the soil, mix in some garden soil with fertilizer and soil enhancer.  I got about four or five inches down when I realized that I was in for a lot more work than I bargained for!

Less than half way through, my shovel broke!  I told you it was like concrete!  No, seriously, it was a very old shovel and it was weak already.  So, Michael had to run to Tractor Supply and get us a new shovel. While he was gone, I took a few pictures of the kids playing and various things around the yard.

Once I finally got the trench deep enough, I started planting bulbs.  Around the Myrtle, I planted Alliums, Hyacinths and Crocuses.

I had helpers at this point.  They were so cute!  They did a great job too.

Molly even got out her gardening gloves and shovel that she got for her birthday and helped me fill in the dirt after we got all the bulbs in the ground. She worked hard!

After mowing, Colin got a ride on the tractor with Daddy.  He LOVES the tractor!

So, this was the final look after all our hard work.  Now, it's the waiting game to see if we will indeed see the fruit of our labor.

So, as the title of this post indicates... I toiled in the soil.  Truly toiled!!  Pray that I get up the nerve to do the rest!! ;)

Until next time...
